Thailand is an AMAZING destination.
Whether you are looking for culture, history, or great food it is all available to you. We have a variety of tours and experiences depending on what you are looking for and how much time you have.
There are also different methods to see the area: Completely independent, Hosted, and Fully Escorted and those are essentially in order of cost as well.
I will say that you will absolutely get the most out of a fully escorted tour. I recommend either private or small group. This way you will have someone to really explain the culture, history and background of what you are seeing and experiencing in Thailand. And get that image of a great big bus and lines and lines of people where you can’t hear the guide out of your mind. That is absolutely NOT the experience I arrange for people! In a private tour it would just be you and your traveling companion(s) and we would tailor the experiences to exactly your interests. In a small group tour it is generally under 14 people and even with that many there is generally more than one guide so you can all receive personalized attention.
In a Hosted experience, we arrange for you to be met by a local guide and exposed to the highlights of the area. They are also there to be a resource for you during your stay and make recommendations for independent activities. You are on your own quite a bit here, but we can also book specific tours and activities for part of your trip so you really do get an immersive experience.
With a completely independent trip, we arrange for your transportation, hotel stay and tours as you desire. This works well if you are already a very experienced traveler, this is not your first trip to the area, and/or you have a very heightened sense of adventure and are on a very limited budget. I personally do feel like you miss out on much of the background and local experience, but it is a start!
Here’s an example of the difference between an independent trip and a hosted or guided experience (I do recognize this isn’t set in Thailand, but you’ll get the point).
One of my favorite private tour experiences includes:
Bangkok for 2 nights – You are met at the airport prior to immigration and taken through the immigration process and then transferred to your hotel. The next day you are given a private tour of the city, starting with an early morning visit to Wat Pho (reclining Buddha) and then continuing on to to a fantastic private tour of the Grand Palace and then a long tail boat ride to see the local life away from the crowds, followed by an evening walking tour of Chinatown’s vibrant food scene.
Days 3-4 are spent at Kanchanaburi in a floathouse on the River Kwai. You will travel through scenic forest to reach Kanchanaburi and the historic River Kwai. From this memorable floating eco-lodge, you will set out to explore the region’s war history and soak up its picturesque jungle and mountain surroundings.
Days 5-6 you return to Bangkok for a flight to Sukhothai, one of Thailand’s ancient capitals. Explore the city’s fascinating temple ruins by bicycle or local transport. This is an amazing cultural experience.
Days 7-9 – you will journey north to beautiful Chiang Mai and stop in a local home to meet a welcoming local family. In their traditional house and rice barn, the family will demonstrate a traditional basket weaving technique. You will have the opportunity to taste the unique flavors of Northern Thai cuisine at a hands-on cooking class. Learn to make authentic dishes you can recreate when you return home, a wonderful reminder of your Thailand experience.
Meet some of Chiang Mai’s famed elephants at the Patara Elephant Farm, set in scenic forest. Enjoy feeding, bathing and exercising these magnificent creatures in an education environment with a focus on conservation.
Day 10 – Chiang Mai – Explore more of Chiang Mai on a free day. Perhaps uncover the temples and atmospheric alleys of the walled old city, or shop for hilltribe handicrafts.
Day 11 – On your last day, enjoy free time until your transfer to Chiang Mai’s airport for your onward journey.
This tour includes 8 nights hotel accommodations plus 2 nights eco-lodge accommodations, daily breakfast, 3 lunches and 2 dinners and transportation in air-conditioned vehicles. Deluxe Accommodations start at $2698 per person (double occupancy), plus air (both international and within Thailand) which we can arrange for you.
And of course, a post tour stay at one of the amazing island beach destinations can be added to your trip at an additional cost. There are several different island destinations available – and which one we recommend will vary depending on the circumstances of your trip, so be sure to give us a call and let’s get this going!
