Previously, it has been very difficult for Americans to take their pets to Mexico with them on vacation to an all-inclusive resort. Now, one of my resort partners, AMResorts is allowing dogs (under 22 pounds) to stay at their Breathless Riviera Maya resort in an Xhale Club room (with an extra dog fee of $55 per night). This means that you can go traveling with your pet dog!

There are, of course some restrictions. For example, the dog must be vaccinated within the past 12 months for Bordotella and Rabies and you must provide evidence that Fido has been treated for fleas and ticks. You can only have one dog in each room and is only allowed in the designated dog area of the hotel (no pool, fitness center, spa, restaurants, beach, shopping or golf for Fido).
Your dog friend must be on a leash at all times and you can only leave them alone in the room for up to two hours at a time. And of course, when you hang out the “dog friendly room sign” and notify the front desk no staff will enter your room. This includes the cleaning staff – they will only come service your room while you are present.
